The first time I ever set foot in Mission High School it was to speak at a career day. Although it was just a few blocks from EHDD’s office I had no idea what was going on behind the walls. I discovered an amazing diverse urban public high school and soon I was helping convert 7,900 sf of unused asphalt next to the football field into a working farm.
The MY (Mission Youth) Farm teaches environmental education by involving them in all aspects of running the farm and associated business. As part of the 1% program, EHDD provided pro-bono services designing the farm, but mostly managing the process, from permitting, scheduling and budgeting, to directing volunteers in the construction.
